“Aquatect Gel Feels Sticky” — What Does That Sticky Feeling Really Mean?
Recently, we’ve received a similar question from several customers who use Aquatect Gel:
“My skin still feels sticky for quite a while after applying Aquatect Gel. Should I use less?”
If you’re used to lightweight skincare products that leave your skin feeling fresh and completely dry, the texture of Aquatect Gel may take a little getting used to.
You may even wonder:
“If my skin feels sticky, does that mean I’m using too much? Is it bad for my skin?”
So today, we’d like to explain:
✓ Why Aquatect Gel can leave your skin feeling sticky
✓ Whether that means you’re using it incorrectly
✓ What to do if the sticky feeling is uncomfortable
Why Does Aquatect Gel Feel Sticky?
The surface of our skin naturally has a protective film made up mainly of sebum and sweat.
This natural layer helps protect the skin and support its ability to retain moisture.
Healthy skin is not necessarily meant to feel completely dry or powdery to the touch.
When this protective layer becomes insufficient, the skin may be more likely to lose moisture and feel dry or sensitive.
Aquatect Gel was developed to support the skin’s moisture balance by providing water, oil and moisturising ingredients together in one step.
Because of this, Aquatect Gel can feel sticky immediately after application.
And even after it has settled into the skin, it may not leave the completely dry, silky finish that some lightweight skincare products do.
Personally, I find that once the initial slippery or sticky feeling settles, my skin feels more soft, moisturised and slightly dewy, rather than completely dry.
Should You Use Less Because It Feels Sticky?
You may be tempted to think:
“If it feels sticky, maybe I should just use less.”
However, simply reducing the amount too much may mean that your skin does not receive as much moisture as it needs.
A slightly moist or tacky finish does not necessarily mean something is wrong.
In fact, the feeling of “comfortable” skincare and the amount of moisture your skin needs do not always match perfectly.
For example, having your hair stick to your face or feeling a little tacky may not be pleasant.
But that does not automatically mean the product is bad for your skin.
A HELPFUL WAY TO THINK ABOUT IT
A little tackiness can be a sign that moisture is still being retained on the skin.
Rather than aiming for skin that feels completely dry immediately after moisturising, focus on how comfortable and moisturised your skin feels overall.
That small change in perspective may completely change the way you think about skincare. 😊
Try Applying Aquatect Gel in Several Smaller Layers
First, it’s important to remember that Aquatect Gel needs some time to settle into the skin.
It is unlikely to feel completely settled just one or two minutes after application.
If you normally apply sunscreen or makeup immediately after Aquatect Gel, try giving your skin a little more time first.
If the sticky feeling is still uncomfortable, or if it makes makeup difficult to apply, we recommend dividing your usual amount into several smaller applications.
This reduces the amount applied at one time, which can make each layer feel lighter and more comfortable.
For example, if you currently use an amount roughly equal to two cherries:
1 cherry-sized amount × 2 applications
½ cherry-sized amount × 4 applications
The important point is that the total amount does not have to change.
You are simply dividing the same amount into smaller layers. This can help you maintain your usual level of moisturising care while reducing the heavy or sticky feeling from applying everything at once.
How Long Should You Wait Between Layers?
How quickly Aquatect Gel settles can vary depending on the amount you use, your skin condition and other individual factors.
Personally, every morning I apply approximately one cherry-sized amount twice, for a total of about two cherry-sized amounts.
After around 10–15 minutes, I usually find that the initial sticky feeling has reduced enough for me to apply sunscreen comfortably.
Your experience may be different, so try adjusting the timing and amount according to how your skin feels.
Too Many Layers? Moisturise While You Do Other Things
If applying Aquatect Gel three or four separate times sounds like too much work, try fitting it into the things you already do in the morning.
Brush your teeth → apply Aquatect Gel
Eat breakfast → apply another layer
Get dressed → apply another layer
Tidy your room → apply another layer
Aquatect Gel does not require a cotton pad like some toners, and its gel texture makes it relatively easy to apply quickly without dripping.
That means you can moisturise little by little while making use of those small gaps in your morning routine.
Another Option: Use More at Night
If your skin feels particularly dry in the morning and Aquatect Gel seems to take longer to settle, you may also want to try increasing the amount you use at night.
Because you cannot reapply skincare while you are asleep, applying a generous amount before bed can help support your skin’s moisture overnight.
When your skin feels well moisturised in the morning, your usual morning skincare may also feel more comfortable to apply.
A little extra shine or stickiness usually matters much less when you’re about to go to sleep.
So instead of worrying about how your skin looks or feels immediately after application, you can use this time to give your skin plenty of moisture before the next morning.
FOR EXAMPLE
A 20-Second Sleeping Pack
Personally, I recommend this simple “sleeping pack” before bed.
STEP 1
Follow your usual nighttime routine.
Remove your makeup, cleanse your face and moisturise as usual.
STEP 2
Just before bed, apply an additional layer:
・Aquatect Gel: approximately 2–3 cherry-sized amounts
It only takes around 20 seconds. Try it and see how your skin feels the next morning.
Find the Aquatect Gel Routine That Works for You
Aquatect Gel may feel different from lightweight skincare products that disappear almost immediately after application.
But a little stickiness does not necessarily mean you are using it incorrectly.
01 Apply it in several smaller layers.
02 Allow more time before sunscreen or makeup.
03 Fit each layer into your morning routine.
04 Apply more generously at night.
The goal is to find a way of using Aquatect Gel that gives your skin the moisture it needs while still fitting comfortably into your daily life.

*Skin condition and product experience may vary from person to person. Please adjust the amount and frequency of application according to how your skin feels.
